The location of the general’s mansion was selected after careful consideration, daylighting elements were fully taken into account during its design and construction. During the early morning hours, soft natural sunlight would shine upon the large balcony stretching out from the main room. The beautiful scenery outside pleasant and comforting.

General Ling’s family would often gather here to enjoy breakfast.

“Eat a little more, Ling Wei. I know that conchiglie pasta is your favourite.” With her husband away, Mrs. Ling sat at the main seat of the dining table, gently smiling to her well-mannered eldest son with a spoon in hand. “This is my special homemade meat sauce, I used twice the amount of Geelan herb, they don’t serve this at the military academy.”

Geelan herbs are a rare and expensive type of herbs enjoyed only by the wealthy. Because of its low yield, it has to be imported from other planets. A commodity so rare that money can’t even buy.

In an era where militarism is at its peak, it has brought upon a regression back to a primitive state of imperialism.

The right to access luxury goods are almost entirely controlled by the military.

Though he tried to politely decline, Mrs. Ling still added a heaping spoonful of sauce to Ling Wei’s bowl.

“Thank you, mom.” Ling Wei’s deep, steady voice revealed a barely detectable hint of hoarseness.

Family breakfasts were rare, but his guilty conscience was stirring up a storm inside and making it difficult for him to remain calm. Despite having done nothing wrong, he still couldn’t bear to look at his mother’s gentle and elegant face straight on.

Meanwhile, the person to blame for it all was sitting before him without a care in the world, slowly enjoying the meat sauce conchiglie with a gleeful, carefree smile on his innocent face.

“Is something the matter Ling Wei?”

“Hum?” Ling Wei turned his head.

Mrs. Ling looked at him with concerned eyes, “You are rarely so absent-mined.”

Her care and concern for him deepened Ling Wei’s shame and guilt.

He quickly covered up his fluster with a warm smile and replied, “It’s nothing, mom. The meat sauce you made today is very delicious.”

Ling Wei’s facial features likely resembled that of his biological father.

As was his smile, since it’s vastly different from that of the Lings’. It lacked his adoptive father’s sharp and piercing majesty.

Ling Wei always felt that no matter how kindly his adoptive father smiled, the imposing manner hidden behind the smile was always hard to ignore, the signs of a true head general.

While his own smile was often described by his classmates at the military academy as bright and cheery.

“When I see Ling Wei’s smile, I feel as if the world is still filled with the bright light of goodness.” His good friend and classmate once commented exaggeratedly, “You’ll know just by looking at him that he’s a righteous and loyal member of the military, worthy of your trust.”

Seeing her son’s worries dissolve, Mrs. Ling smiled back knowingly, and said, “When kids grow up, they start to have their little secret. Ling Wei, are you also starting to hide secrets from me?”

Though unintentional, her words struck Ling Wei like a bolt of lightning.

His stunned expression showed that he was clearly harbouring a secret. Mrs. Ling couldn’t help but smile at her eldest son’s inability to conceal his thoughts. Even as his mother, she thinks that his honesty is quite adorable, completely different from her two biological sons.

Ling Qian and Ling Han are such headache-worthy kids because they are both too smart, it’s possible that they may even surpass their father’s superior intellect in the future. Even now, as their mother, she struggles to read them and guess their thoughts.

In comparison, the simple and academically-minded Ling Wei was always able to draw out her motherly love.

“It’s alright.” Not wanting to embarrass her son, Mrs. Ling refrained from pressing further and said with a smile, “It’s normal for boys to have their secrets, I’m not trying to force you into talking.” The open-minded Mrs. Ling paused and added in a whispered tone as if having a heart-to-heart with her son, “If there’s a girl that you like, bring her over for me to meet next time you are on holiday. I’m sure she’s a fine girl, right?”

Her understanding words only furthered Ling Wei’s guilt, making him feel like he’s let her down.

“Oh, I just remembered. There won’t be a holiday period for you anymore since you’ll be graduating from the academy next year.”

“That’ right. My brother is graduating next year.” The voice that suddenly interjected was especially jarring. Ling Qian was leisurely chewing his pasta, when he paused and spoke, clearly with hidden intentions. “And when that time comes, he can finally get a girlfriend and have sex.”

Panic took over, and Ling Wei felt as if he had been stabbed, his jet-black eyes glared at Ling Qian’s exquisite features with the fear that he might be exposed in front of their mother.

“Ling, Qian, what nonsense are you speaking of?” Mrs. Ling shifted into authoritative parent gear and looked at her second son questioningly.

“Is this how you’ve learned to talk at the academy? Wait until your father gets back, I’ll have to speak with him about this.”

Ling Qian gave his mother a soothing smile and pleaded, “Sorry mom, don’t be mad at me.”

The cute childlike whining tone and boyish charms both worked in appeasing a mother’s anger.

Mrs. Ling softened upon seeing her son’s expression and replied, “If you don’t want me to be angry with you, then don’t do the things that make me angry. Don’t think that we’re going to drop the whole incident with you getting expelled from Zheng Shi Military Academy, you aren’t off the hook yet. If only you were……”

“Half as good as Ling Wei.” Ling Qian finished the sentence frequently uttered by both of his parents with a sarcastic and mocking tone, his smiling gaze landing on his brother.

Across the table, Ling Wei trembled in terror.

Not because of Ling Qian’s words, or the look in his eye. It was because, underneath the table, his younger brother had stretched out his leg and inserted his barefoot between Ling Wei’s knees, seemingly to make him open up his legs.

“That’s right, if only you were half as good as Ling Wei, I would also be in better health.”

“I know, which is why I’ve decided to spend more time with my dear brother here to build some good soldierly habits. Zheng Shi Military Academy is mostly filled with spoiled rich brats from high ranking military families. True soldiers like brother here are rare to come by. So it’s actually a good thing that I was expelled, if worse comes to worst, I’ll just go and attend Zhen Di Military Academy.”

“Your father will deal with the school, I still hope that you can go back to Zheng Shi and complete your studies.

The foot between Ling Wei’s knees was annoyingly agile, attempting to make further advances under the table. Ling Wei shot his brother a look of warning while their mother wasn’t looking and clamped his knees shut.

If Ling Qian refuses to back off, then he better be ready to deal with a swollen ankle for a few days.

Noticing his brother’s resistance, a sadistic grin crawled across the eighteen-year-old’s face. He raised his voice just a little, as if trying to attract heir mother’s attention, and said, “Oh that’s right mom, I’ve brought back a wonderful video for you to see this time……”

Ling Wei’s body suddenly stiffened.

“Don’t try to dodge the question, Ling Qian, I’m talking to you about the academy.” Mrs. Ling criticized her son.

“But it’s a fascinating video.” Ling Qian replied, beaming.

Suddenly shooting his brother a stern look of warning, which hit Ling Wei hard like a boulder against his heart.

His mother, who is of poor health, is sitting right beside him.

The mother that had just served him pasta sauce, the mother that spoke kind, gentle words to him. Imagining the look of disappointment on her face after she sees the video caused cold sweat to run down Ling Wei’s back.

In the end, Mrs. Ling’s train of thought was successfully derailed by her son and led astray. “Honestly, I’ve never been able to successfully have a real conversation with you, you’re always trying to turn me around. Fine, I’ll bite, what is this wonderful video of yours?”

He promised to destroy it.

Ling Wei stared at Ling Qian nervously.

As if trying to build suspense, Ling Qian gave a slight grin and continued to violate his brother under the table.

The knees that clamped shut around his foot, causing him pain and prevented further invasion, relinquished resistance in humiliation after a moment of stiffness.

Ling Qian dove straight in punishingly, pressing the sole of his foot against his brother’s manhood.

“It’s footage of the Zheng Shi Academy student military parade, considered to be internal data, so it’s not made public.” The sole of Ling Qian’s barefoot mercilessly rubbed against his brother’s dormant member through the rigid uniform fabric. The shape and sensation of his brother’s manhood caused Ling Qian’s body to burn with desire. He smiled elegantly to his mother and added, “I was standing in the first row. I’ll play it for you in a minute, so you can see how handsome your son looked.”

“Don’t think you can distract me so easily.” She is his mother after all, so Mrs. Ling can’t so easily dismiss her son’s bad behaviours. She continued to scold Ling Qian more but realized that she seems to have shifted all her focus to her second son and forgotten about Ling Wei. Turning to look at her oldest son, she asked with a slight surprise, “Are you not feeling well Ling Wei?” With a troubled look on his face, and breathing erratically from the torture, the flustered Ling Wei seemed as if he was caught in a shameful act, “It’s fine mom, I was just……”

“Do you have a fever? I’ve told you many times before, once you know when you are going on holiday, let me know, so I can ask your dad to send a special car to pick you up. Those regular maglev trains aren’t at all comfortable.” Mrs. Ling leaned in closer and touched her manicured, soft, porcelain-like hand to Ling Wei’s forehead and frowned, “No fever, but you are sweating. Are you not feeling well?”

Ling Qian looked on with amusement as their mother showed concern for his brother.

Without warning, Ling Qian applied force with his toes and pressed down hard on Ling Wei’s stiffening organ.

A bolt of pain only a man would know shot up Ling Wei’s back.

Ling Wei was almost unable to breathe from the pain, even with his steely willpower, he was barely able to conceal his panicked expression.

“Mister Wei.” Mrs. Ling turned to instruct their butler as he is coming down from the second floor, “Please prepare some nutritional supplements for Ling Wei in the next few days. Zhen Di Academy isn’t like Zheng Shi, they probably don’t provide nutritional supplements to their students. Honestly, my boy finally comes home, and now he’s breaking out in a sweat.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Also, please remind me to call the dean at the academy, perhaps they’ve been training too hard lately? Even if it’s not Zheng Shi Military Academy, he’s still the general’s son, they should at least look after his wellbeing.” Mrs. Ling complained protectively.

She never liked to wave her status around as the general’s wife. Still, she only gets to see her son for a short period of time each year, so of course she’s worried about him getting bullied at school.

She’s got nothing to worry about when it comes to Ling Qian and Ling Han.

But with Ling Wei’s personality, he’s likely willing to endure anything alone even if he’s been wronged.
